October 4, 2016Over 250 CEOs of the world’s top foundries & their dealers from the mechanical engineering & foundry chemical products industry conversed with senates of the main casting clients about present industry trends, challenges & future prospects at the 9th International Foundry Forum in Dresden, September 23-24, 2016.
The IFF is jointly organised by CEMAFON (The European Foundry Equipment Suppliers Association) & CAEF (The European Foundry Association).
Required Modifications of Casting Foundry Industry:
This main event of the foundry world dealt with the many difficulties, as well as, prospects of the sector. The requirement for Casting Foundry will regularly grow in the future, despite the fact there will be a variation both of markets & regions along with materials & products.
The digitalization & additive manufacturing techniques will be required modifications, the foundry industry has to implement so as to persist as an efficacious supplying business. Massive collection of the automated analysis & data in combination with the use of e.g. additive manufacturing in precise situations are key elements towards achievement. Nowadays, these technologies are a cohesive part of the foundry business.
A look into the future of the foundry industry was given by Rolf Hattler, BMW, as the main customer of foundries, the automotive industry. He specified that climate & environment regulations in addition to urbanisation are driving forces for e-mobility. However, for the years to come, novel power train concepts will still be integrated with combustion technology. He says “Thus, castings have a future”.
An insight into the future of mobility was given by Reiner Kurtz. Introducing his Smart Foundry, so as to increase productivity & increase lead times the presented innovative logistic process with self-driving devices for internal transport amid others measures.
Summing up, Acting President of CEMAFON, Dr. Ioannis Ioannidis indicated that inspite of the current problems of the industry the sector can have a hopeful view towards the future if advanced solutions stay being implemented. He says, “It´s up to us to shape the future”.
